Statement of Purpose : Sample - I

For students struggling with FMS Statement of Purpose

Sample SOP - I

Born into a family of farmers in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, I realised very early in my childhood the importance of hard work. Though my parents were not educated, they understood the importance of education. The farming community I grew up in instilled in me the importance of – and our complete dependence on – the annual monsoons and it’s life-giving water.

Water was always scarce. This was the grim reality of our life. As a consequence, I decided to study water management. After failing thrice at IIT-JEE, I took up chemical engineering at Samrat Ashok Technical College. After my degree, I got a job at ION Exchange, a large company that deals with water as a commodity.

With global warming staring us in the face, the availability of water is going to be a major problem by 2025. Countries like India, which depend so heavily on nature for water, will be severely affected. I’d like to make my own little contribution to avoid this potential catastrophe.

Because of the scale of operations, international resources will need to be mobilized. A degree from ISB will equip me with finance and people management skills, skills which will in turn enable me to rope in funds from the World Bank and implement effective water management techniques.

ISB is one of the rare business schools in India with a lot of international exposure and students from diverse backgrounds. It would give me a platform to reach to the world and realise my dream of serving the common man.
