 Prepositons indicating place

Through this quiz I have tried to explain the difference among the most commonly misused prepositions indicating the relation between two nouns in terms of place.A quick glance at a few more:

  • between (for relating two objects) / among (used for relating more than two objects)
  • on : indicates a surface [hence used with road, the earth etc]
  • in : area [hence used with city, country, world etc]
  • at : specific place [The luggage is at the door.]
  • up : From a lower to or toward a higher point on
  • above : on top of or higher than
  • inside : used to when we refer to enclosure
  • beside : next to
  • besides : apart from
  • out : beyond
  • outside : the open
If you can think of any more prepositions indicating  place do post them in the comments section of this post.Needless to say any queries please post them in the comments section of this post.

Many students have asked me to increase the number of sentences in the quizzes. To know your opinion I have added one question on the same in the quiz.

Do let me know what you guys feel about increasing the number of sentences for practice especially in the quizzes based on grammar.

Looking forward to your comments :)

Adieu !!!

  2. you missed "over"
    Why are these wrong?
    1)"The bridge over the river."
2)She looked at the sky over the earth"

As per dictionary, "over" means "above or higher than something else "
"She held the umbrella over both of us. "
